EMBRYO ADOPTION
In our fertility clinic Ovoclinic we offer you the adoption of frozen embryos or embryo donation so that you can fulfill your dream.
EMBRYO ADOPTION AND ITS SUCCESS RATE
Embryo adoption or embryo donation is a simple treatment performed thanks to embryos donated by patients who did not need to use them in their treatment. In an in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle, several embryos are cultured and among those that reach the blastocyst stage, only one of them is transferred to the patient and the remaining ones are vitrified for subsequent treatments. These embryos can be donated so that other patients have the possibility of forming a family.
At Ovoclinic, we have more than 20 years of experience in all types of highly complex assisted reproduction treatments. For us, our priority is to achieve your dream together. In addition, our success rates are above average and we have Pregnancy and Birth Guarantee Programs for greater peace of mind and security.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM EMBRYO ADOPTION?
This treatment is recommended in the following cases:
- Heterosexual couples in which both partners suffer from infertility or present a genetic incompatibility.
- Single women with a low ovarian reserve or poor quality eggs, who cannot get pregnant using their own eggs.
- Women who have experienced implantation failures or repeated miscarriages.
- Same sex female couples who are unable to get pregnant with their own eggs.
HOW IS EMBRYO DONATION ACHIEVED?
The treatment will start with endometrial preparation, which is achieved by administering estrogens, coinciding with the menstrual period of the patient. This step usually takes between 12 and 14 days, until the endometrium reaches the required thickness to receive the embryo.
On the same day as the transfer, the embryo is thawed in the laboratory and subsequently transferred into the patients uterus through a fine catheter. It is a painless procedure that does not require any sedation.
Either 14 or 15 days after the embryo transfer procedure, the pregnancy test is performed to check if the treatment is successful.
In the case that the pregnancy test is negative, the process can be repeated after a prudential time interval has passed.

FAQ
Who can donate an embryo?
There are a number of requirements that must be met for patients to donate their embryos to other couples. Firstly, the eggs must come from a woman under 35, in order to have high chances of pregnancy. In addition, negative serologies and normal karyotypes are required.
What physical compatibility will the donated embryo have with me?
In the case of embryo adoption we look for compatibility of blood groups and physical characteristics with patients, however it isn’t as easy to match as accurately as with egg donation or double donation. In this type of treatment we wouldn’t be able to use Ovomatch, for example.
